Drawing on the value-added trade decomposition frameworks established by scholars such as Koopman et al. (2014) and Wang et al. (2013), this study utilizes data from the UNCTAD Eora database, the OECD Input-Output database, and the UIBE-GVC Index database to calculate the domestic value-added (DVA) of exports by industry for countries worldwide. Based on bilateral DVA, we analyze the global production network at the country-industry dimension.

The figure below illustrates the world GVC network in 2019, highlighting significant changes in the global division of labor over the past 30 years. Firstly, China has replaced Japan as the central economy in the Asia region, becoming the largest value-added exporter, transitioning from the periphery of the GVC network to the "center stage," forming a "tripartite balance" with the United States and Germany. Secondly, by 2019, a value chain "closed loop" has essentially formed among countries in the region surrounding China, indicating a closer and more profound cooperation among these countries based on value chains. Lastly, from the overall perspective of the world GVC network, the RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) region has gradually emerged from a globally value chain trade network dominated by developed countries, creating a high-intensity value-added trade closed loop that extends to numerous countries outside the region, significantly enhancing its importance and status within the global value chain division system.
