In May 2024, laboratory director Lv Yue was invited to participate in the first "Camphor Digital Consumption Forum" jointly initiated by the Camphor Economic Conference (CEC) and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and delivered a keynote speech on "Dual E-commerce Platforms and Chinese Enterprise Exports". Professor Wang Qing, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Southwest University of Finance and Economics, Professor Sheng Bin, Vice President of Nankai University, Professor Yi Xingjian, Vice President of Guangdong University of Finance, and Associate Professor Huang Wei, a young scholar at Peking University, deputy editor in chief of Economics (Quarterly), and member of the Camphor Economic Conference Management Committee, attended the meeting.
Digital consumption is a powerful starting point for China to accelerate the development of new quality productivity, open up new space for domestic demand growth, and promote Chinese path to modernization. The first Camphor Digital Consumption Forum, jointly organized by the Camphor Economic Conference (CEC) and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and co organized by the Consumer Economy and Labor Economy Research Team and the editorial department of "Financial Science", was held on May 19, 2024 at the Liulin Campus of Southwest University of Finance and Economics. More than 120 experts, scholars, teachers and students from Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nankai University, University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Central University of Finance and Economics and other universities attended the seminar.

The opening ceremony
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Gai Kaicheng, Dean of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics,
Professor Wang Qing welcomed all the experts and scholars who attended the conference in his speech. He pointed out that the high-quality development of consumption is the proper meaning of promoting Chinese path to modernization and the inevitable choice to achieve high-quality economic and social development. This forum is themed around digital consumption, focusing on how the digital economy can promote the integration of domestic and foreign trade, and support the new development of dual circulation, with both theoretical and practical significance. It is hoped that the school will continue to focus on the digital economy and consumer economy with academic and industry colleagues to conduct in-depth research, explore new areas, and contribute more to accelerating the construction of China's independent consumer economy knowledge system and promoting the consumer economy to serve Chinese path to modernization.
Associate Professor Huang Wei stated in his speech that this forum has provided a platform for academic exchange, sharing, and wisdom collision among colleagues, to jointly explore the innovation path and development direction of digital consumption. The academic characteristics of the Camphor Economics Forum lie in adhering to the essence of academia, emphasizing the depth and quality of research. Keynote Speech
After the opening ceremony, Professor Zou Hong, Vice Dean of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, presided over the keynote speech. Professor Sheng Bin, Vice President of Nankai University, analyzed the relationship between cross-border digital flow and digital trade under the title of "Cross border Data Flow and Digital Trade: Domestic Regulation and International Rules", and explored the international and domestic regulatory issues of cross-border data from a policy perspective; Professor Yi Xingjian, Vice President of Guangdong University of Finance, gave a lecture titled "Insufficient Consumption of Chinese Residents and the Release of Consumption Potential under the New Development Pattern". Based on the characteristic fact of insufficient consumption demand of Chinese residents, he explored how to enhance residents' consumption and build a new development pattern of dual circulation from the aspects of income distribution, population structure, social security, household debt, and housing prices. Professor Zhang Xun from the School of Statistics at Beijing Normal University discussed the welfare effects of digital infrastructure construction on economic growth from the perspective of general equilibrium, with the topic of "Welfare Effects of Digital Economy Development". He emphasized the importance of reducing trade costs, especially search and information costs, in promoting overall social welfare growth. Cui Shufeng, the head of compliance and legal research at Cainiao Group's legal compliance department, introduced the development of cross-border e-commerce logistics in China, the trend of digital transformation and innovation in logistics, and how to promote digital innovation in China's cross-border logistics and enhance the resilience of cross-border e-commerce supply chains, with the title "Digital Innovation and Development of Cross border E-commerce Logistics in China - Taking Cainiao Smart Logistics as an Example".

Professor Dai Mi from the School of Economics and Business Administration at Beijing Normal University's paper "Tariff Reduction and Consumer Welfare Distribution: A New Perspective Based on Import Share" evaluates the impact of tariff reduction on final and intermediate goods on urban residents' consumption welfare after China's accession to the WTO from a new perspective of import share. Professor Lv Yue's paper "Dual E-commerce Platforms and Chinese Enterprise Exports" from the Institute of Global Innovation and Governance at the University of International Business and Economics explores the differences in export effects between dual e-commerce platforms and single e-commerce platforms, and tests the two major influencing mechanisms of scale effect and intermediate goods effect. The paper "Consumer Search and Price Dynamics: Evidence from U.S. Grocery Markets" by Assistant Professor Li Lun from the School of Economics at Peking University provides an in-depth analysis of the relationship between the consumption behavior of American households in supermarkets and inflation. The paper "Air Pollution and Household Food Consumption: A Study Based on Household Consumption QR Code Data" by Yu Xi from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics discusses the impact of air pollution on health and productivity, as well as its underlying mechanisms.

Professor Ni Hongfu from the School of Applied Economics at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' paper "Analysis of the Unequal Tax Burden Effect of Tax System Reform - Empirical Evidence from the 'Business Tax to Value added Tax Reform'" empirically analyzes the impact of the 'Business Tax to Value added Tax' policy on the standard deviation and average tax burden of corporate and business taxes from the perspective of micro enterprises. Professor Shi Yupeng, China Internet Economics Research Institute, Central University of Finance and Economics, studied how digital transformation can help enterprises to improve their competitiveness by breaking information silos and reducing cost stickiness in his paper "Digital transformation and enterprise competition speed: based on the empirical data of A-share listed companies". The paper by Liu Tong from the School of Economics at Huazhong University of Science and Technology discusses the causal relationship and mechanism between the openness of digital service trade and the quality upgrade of manufacturing products, based on empirical evidence from export data of listed companies. Qin Huiying's paper "Practice makes perfect: Does digital finance strengthen the transmission of monetary policy to the consumer side?" from the perspective of residents' use of digital financial services, analyzes the impact and mechanism of digital financial use on the transmission of monetary policy to consumption.
Sub forum 3: Digital E-commerce and New Consumption
The forum is co hosted by Wang Naihe, Director of the Editorial Department of Nankai Economic Research, and Ding Zhongbing, Deputy Editor in Chief of Reform. Professor Zhang Yina from the School of Social Development and Public Policy at Fudan University, Professor Peng Chong from the Joint Research Institute of Nanjing Audit University, and Director Wang Shennan from the editorial department of the Journal of Beijing Technology and Business University served as reviewers, while Associate Professor Luan Bingjiang from Southwest University of Finance and Economics served as the venue coordinator. Professor Zhang Yina from the School of Social Development and Public Policy at Fudan University's paper "Monitoring and Interpretation of Consumption Big Data and Consumption Statistical Indicators" analyzes the changing trends of consumption from the perspectives of enterprises and individuals, and interprets the consumption characteristics of different types and groups through four quadrant consumption big data. Professor Peng Chong from the Joint Research Institute of Nanjing Audit University's paper "Quality and Quantity of Consumption Rise: A Perspective on the Construction of Information Consumption Demonstration Cities" identifies the impact of information consumption demonstration city construction policies on consumption. The paper "Consumer Trends and Characteristics from the Development of Life Service Platforms" by Sun Cong, a researcher at Meituan Research Institute, combines the development process of local life service platforms such as Meituan and changes in consumer data to introduce the overall trend of service consumption and several recent market characteristics. Li Xiaogang's paper "The Impact of Platform Economy on Household Consumption" from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics examines the impact of platform entry on household consumption and further discusses how platform entry affects household living costs.

Shi Mingming, Associate Professor of Business School of Renmin University of China, Wang Qi, Associate Researcher of Business School of Sichuan University, and Wu Yingjun, Associate Professor of School of Economics of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics served as reviewers. Zeng Maoxia, Business School of Renmin University of China, studied the impact of instant retail platform entry on online and offline consumption in his paper "Instant retail platform entry and resident consumption - empirical research based on household micro data", and discussed the mechanism from the perspective of transportation costs, transportation costs and time costs. The paper "The Rise of Digital Consumption: APP Applications and Consumption Potential Release" by Associate Researcher Wang Qi from the School of Business at Sichuan University explores the impact of household digital transformation on consumption inequality at the micro level. Chen Yijun from the School of Economics at Jinan University's paper "Research on Non Professional Responses to Real Estate Policy Communication - Evidence from Weibo" explores whether real estate policy communication can reverse public expectations, especially whether non professionals can accept and understand the communication information. The paper "Financial Knowledge and Financial Policy Preference: Evidence from Entrepreneurs in China" by Associate Professor Zhou Yi from Guanghua School of Management at Peking University investigates the impact of financial knowledge on the financial decision-making of small and medium-sized enterprises, emphasizing the important role of financial education in their utilization of external financing and financial risk management. The paper by Xu Qingwen from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, titled "Health Shock and Consumption Smoothing: The Role of Digital Inclusive Finance," explores the potential mechanisms and causal effects of digital inclusive finance in enhancing household consumption smoothing ability based on the specific risk event of health shock. The paper "The Limited inclusive Effect of Digital Finance on Consumption Insurance: Evidence from China" by Yue Qi from the School of Finance at Southwest University of Finance and Economics measures the consumption insurance capacity of Chinese residents and explores in depth the impact of digital finance on income insurance and the heterogeneity of different impacts.

This forum has specially set up a "journal meeting" segment.
